Psychotherapist In Cheltenham and Bristol
Kyla McKillop
Psychotherapy Approach
A warm welcome, and thank your visiting my site. I trust you will find all the information you need here, but please feel free to contact me directly if there is anything else I can help with. As a Senior Family and Systemic Psychotherapist and Supervisor, I am registered with the Association of Family Therapy (AFT) and the United Kingdom for Counselling and Psychotherapy (UKCP). I work relationally with individuals, children, and families, offering Therapy in Bristol and Gloucestershire. Sessions are held in person and online where required.
Having worked in Mental Health Services and Education since 2005, I recognise how a person's context can shape the experience of significant events. The positions we occupy along with our beliefs, stories, and even the language we use, interconnect to create the dimensions of our reality.
Clients report struggling in relationships with themselves and with others, who may be present or absent in their lives. Systemic Psychotherapy understands that problems do not exist in isolation, and are instead often shared with relatives, friends, and colleagues.
Together we can create the conditions for compassionate dialogue, where all perspectives can be included and discomfort can be experienced safely. It is here where problematic patterns can be met with curiosity. Often in the territory between people’s positions the possibilities for change can be found. It is for this reason that I encourage individuals to include significant others in sessions.

Research & Theory
I am undertaking a Doctorate in Advanced Practice and Research in Systemic Psychotherapy, at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. This journey allows me to continue to reflect and look closely at my ideas in practice, drawing on current literature, and the wisdom of respected elders.
Neutrality and Curiosity are both fundamental principles of Systemic Psychotherapy. I draw on these and a variety of Evidence Based Research and therapeutic models, including Attachment Based Family Therapy.
